Kenyan Airlines operate out of Jomo Kenyatta International  to parts of Kenya  namely, Eldoret,Kitale,Kakamega,Kisumu,Lamu,Mombasa,Lamu,Malindi,Lodwar,Lokichogio.Private charter operators operate  into/out of Wilson Airport  to  Samburu,Amboseli,Tsavo,Meru,Chyullu Hills,Oldonyo Owas,Lewa Downs,Loisaba,Mt Kenya ,Nanyuki,Shaba,Joys Camp, Lake Naivasha,Lamu,Ukunda,Malindi,Lamu,Kiwayu once daily either in the morning or afternoon. These air charter companies suspend flights to some destination during low season March to mid-June due to capacity and for flights to Kiwayu you need to have minimum 2 passengers and the flight will go via Malindi or Lamu outbound or inbound same applies to flights to Diani (Ukunda) the flight might go via Mombasa outbound or inbound depending with the loads. The airlines do operate ATR 42,Dash 8,B737,CRJ 170/190,Fokker 28,DC-9  while private air charter operators operate Caravan 208  ,Dash 7,Dash 8,Let 410,Twin Otter,Donier 228, among other aircrafts. The scheduled flights to Amboseli are operated out of Wilson at 0730 hrs that means check in time 0630 hrs. Bookings can be done online or by sending email, fax to check on seat availability and dates. Airfares are published and may change without notice due to fluctuation in fuel prices and other government taxes. If there is high demand on a route like Maasai Mara two flights are assigned. Two daily services are operated to Maasai Mara every day with 3 departures in the morning at 0945 hrs, 1000 hrs and 1030 hrs   and in the afternoon at 1445 hrs, 1500 hrs and 1515 hrs respectively. In Samburu and Nanyuki we have 2 departures once daily departing at 1030 hrs  to Maasai Mara picking Lewa Downs, Shaba, Sweet Waters,OutSpan Nyeri, Joys Camp,Kitich,Mugie,Sosian,Nyeri,Meru,Aberdares,Mt Kenya,Loisaba,Kitich Camp,Olmalo,Olpejeta,Elsas Kopje and it is one hour 20 minutes flight arriving mara at 1200 hrs.Scheduled flight of the Coastal region  starts to depart  at 0730 hrs and  0800 hrs  From Mombasa   2 departures to Ukunda then Malindi to Maasai Mara one daily flight and out of Maasai Mara  2 departures at 1330 hrs and 1345 hrs to Malindi ,Ukunda then Mombasa and flight time one way  1 hour 50 minutes using  Let 410 UVP E9/E20  19 seats and Cessna Caravan 208  12 seats and Dash 8-100.Maasai Mara game reserve  11 airstrips  and each flight does minimum of 3  landings and 3 take offs and  different airstrips serves different tented camp, lodges and hotels so you must master the name of the hotel you are going to and listen to the announcements made for each landing and take off point to avoid being dropped at the wrong  airstrip. Flights out of Malindi to Maasai Mara or verse versa with less than 5 people you will be dropped in Mombasa or pay for the balance to make it 5 seats to enable the flight depart and arrive there.

A private charter flight comes in handy for those travelers who have connecting flights that does not match the scheduled flights timetable. Charter flights from Lamu, Kiwayu, Malindi, Mombasa, and Ukunda to any destination in Kenya can be on any of the aircraft depending with the capacity and the client’s choice and they fly at different speeds and some are pressurized and others are unpressurized. With private jet charter flights you can land Jomo Kenyatta International,Eldoret International and Moi Mombasa International anytime as it operates 24 hours whereas Lamu and Ukunda opens at 0630 hrs and closes at 600pm and Malindi opens at 0630 hrs and closes at 2030 same as Wilson Airport Nairobi. Out  of  Lamu,Maasai Mara,Samburu,Shaba,Amboseli,Tsavo,Meru,Ukunda,Mombasa,Malindi you  can fly direct to any destination within Kenya without having to go to any point of exit/entry unless you flying cross border then you will require landing and over flight clearances but also you need to observe carefully the  endurance of the aircraft you are flying and the alternate for fuel. Flights to Northern and Northern Kenya you will require police clearance as these are restricted areas due to insecurity. Some of these airstrips in Northern and North Eastern Kenya are untidy and you need to get the latest information before you fly and also the weather in Mars bit is always bad in early morning and in the late evening and in this case you will have to land at Marsabit Sigel.
