Home Remedies for Asthma in Children

Asthma is a chronic ailment and it occurs among people of all age group. However, children are more vulnerable to asthma.

Inflammation of the respiratory pipe is called asthma. Swelling causes reduction in the quantity of breathing air resulting in the symptoms such as cough, wheezing, breathing difficulty and tightness of chest. Children around the age of 5 years will have the initial symptoms of asthma such as frequent respiratory infections and wheezing. A child can be protected from the asthmatic attack by avoiding perfumes, food items which will cause asthmatic attack, covering the mouth and nose with a scarf during cool climate, keeping the bed room free of allergens and dust and replacing the filter of air conditioner periodically.

Doctors diagnose asthma based on the medical history of the child and parents. Also, they will check the running nose and inflamed air passage. Other physical tests include breathing tests using stethoscope and spirometer.

Doctor will prescribe medicines for 5 to 6 weeks for the child who is diagnosed for asthma. Depending upon the improvement, the treatment will be continued or modified.

Before going to bed at night, give the child a few roasted grams and a glass of milk daily. This will prevent asthmatic attack.

Grind an old piece of turmeric into a fine powder. Mix one tablespoon of the powder with two tablespoons of old honey. Give this mixture to the child daily once. The asthma will be cured.

Grind a few leaves of Holy Basil (Tulsi) into a fine paste. Mix 20 ml of the paste with 13 ml of pure honey extracted from hives of small honeybees. Give this mixture to the child daily. He will be relieved from asthmatic attack.

Warm a ripe banana over a low flame and then sprinkle a little black pepper on it. By easting this daily, the child can get relief from asthma.
